This Bryan Brown incident makes me laugh a lot. For sure a man who for sure does not have 'handlers'.
Back in 2009, I was lucky enough to get tickets to a TIFF screening of "Beautiful Kate", starring Bryan along with Ben Mendelsohn, Sophie Lowe, Maeve Dermody & others. And directed by Brown's wife, Rachel Ward. It was a Sunday morning screening with no special notes so imagine the thrill for me when there was Q&A after with Ward, Brown, Sophie & Maeve.
I won't spoil any film but the audience was a bit stunned when it was over. It's a stunning directing debut & well worth watching but you will leave changed.
For a moment no one was really asking questions but then a man stood up and started talking about how great the film was & the hard work of cast & crew & we all slowly realized it was Sam Neill, sat in the audience with us all. He was at TIFF with another film & had shown up to support. He spoke so eloquently about his pride in all her hard work that she was in bits for awhile.
A lovely moment.
I have pictures I'll try to track down & add in.
When I was leaving to track down some brunch, I realized Sam was walking same direction as my car. I'll forever regret not inviting him for coffee.
But there it is. My Sam & Bryan tale. Nice day to remember
